I grew up in a mid-size town in Kansas. Now Wichita is huge and is actually the "big city" in the region. We didn't even have a Gap until I was 8 or 9. I grew up on the same street for almost 16 years. My parents brought me home to a little gray house and we moved across the street when I was 5. We all loved that house. All my favorite childhood memories are associated with that house. My sister was loved in that house. My brothers and I drove each other crazy in that house. :) Two of my best friends came from being neighbors at that house. We were forced to move from it after my parents divorced. I know my mom wishes she could have kept it.
As I now have children of my own, I struggle with not giving them that stable house to grow up in. We have moved 3 times in my children's little lives. I know in my brain that it is the family within a house that makes the home but my heart seems to say otherwise.
I love the song "The House that Built Me" by Miranda Lambert. It seems to embody all that I feel right now. I actually "met" the person who owns the home via Facebook a year or two ago. She may get a knock on her door. Take a listen... it is a beautiful song.
