We're moving....again

Hi everyone!

I know my blog has died. But we received exciting news yesterday. We are trading in our snow boots for flip flops and moving to Charlotte, NC! I am super excited to try out the South. If you are keeping track, this is our 5th move. We are crazy. Chris is moving at the end of March and the kids and I will follow after they finish up school. Tyler is graduating preschool this year...sniffle. We have a lot to do to get him registered for kindergarten down there and find housing. Wish us luck! :)

Curse of the B's?

Most people who know me, know that I am a HUGE fan of the Kansas Jayhawks. It is my alma mater and it is very difficult not to get swept up with basketball fever when you attend the school. Truth be told, I loved basketball even before attending KU. I am such a fan that anything that can be decorated with a Jayhawk is much to the chagrin of my Kansas St. Wildcat husband. When we found out Tyler was a boy- my decorating scheme drifted towards my favorite team. I had to be fair though because he is technically half Wildcat. So he has elements of both teams in his room. I kinda want his picture of Allen Field House and his 2008 Championship pennant in my own mom cave.

I tend to be a mouthy fan. I will defend my Jayhawks to the death even when I know deep down they aren't playing at their best. There are a few players on this years team that I just don't love (sorry Brady Morningstar and Tyshawn Taylor) even though they both have stepped up as of late. My favorite Jayhawk this year is Thomas Robinson. He sometimes gets a little ahead of himself but I love his heart. He had an amazing game against Mizzou. He story is compelling too- lost his mother right before the K-State game this year. He has a very young (9?) sister and I am praying for both of them.

So all of this is in anticipation of March Madness. It started yesterday and this time of year it is great to be a stay at home mom. I don't have to sneak a look at the scores on my computer. I can watch every game if I want- though I usually don't. My beloved Jayhawks play tomorrow night and I hope we can kick the B curse (Bucknell, Bradley, Butler, anyone?). We are super jinxed though by the talking heads at ESPN and even Pres. Obama. I will be cheering for (oh who are we kidding- silently cheering against) the Wildcats tonight with the Hubs. Until tomorrow- Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

House or Home?

I grew up in a mid-size town in Kansas. Now Wichita is huge and is actually the "big city" in the region. We didn't even have a Gap until I was 8 or 9. I grew up on the same street for almost 16 years. My parents brought me home to a little gray house and we moved across the street when I was 5. We all loved that house. All my favorite childhood memories are associated with that house. My sister was loved in that house. My brothers and I drove each other crazy in that house. :) Two of my best friends came from being neighbors at that house. We were forced to move from it after my parents divorced. I know my mom wishes she could have kept it.

As I now have children of my own, I struggle with not giving them that stable house to grow up in. We have moved 3 times in my children's little lives. I know in my brain that it is the family within a house that makes the home but my heart seems to say otherwise.

I love the song "The House that Built Me" by Miranda Lambert. It seems to embody all that I feel right now. I actually "met" the person who owns the home via Facebook a year or two ago. She may get a knock on her door. Take a listen... it is a beautiful song.

Relocating Round 5

UGH!! This should have been the easiet relocation but was an enormous pain in the arse! Poor Tyler caught a horrible stomach virus the week we were set to move. Poor guy couldn't keep a thing down. By the end of day 2 I thought he was getting better. But he was still throwing up on day 3 and we ended up at the doctor. Our doctor promptly sent him to the emergency room at Children's Hospital in St. Paul. Talk about scary!!

T and I spent 2 days in the hospital. Tyler was so brave getting the IV and made many friends of the docs and residents. I hate hospitals and especially sleeping in them. I felt terrible for the families who knew they had to stay for much longer. So many babies! I jolted awake every time a baby would cry in the night thinking it was one of mine. Luckily, Chris was able to come to MN and take care of Allie. He was also stuck with the crappy job of supervising the movers and cleaning our house for the buyers. Tyler checked out of the hospital on Friday and we trekked to IL in the snow. I am through with snow! Please God, let Illinois be less snowy. Someday I am moving south or to Cali!

We are now in the house and most things are settled. We still don't have our clothes dryer hooked up. Our electrician has been stalling for almost 2 weeks. Not doing laundry when you have 2 little kids is not an option. We are all down to our last few things that fit. :) This house is overwhelmingly white! It is new construction and they painted everything builder white. We have two rooms painted so far. I hate white walls!

No more relocating for me for a good bit. If Chris wants to see a full scale breakdown of his wife, he will ask me to move anytime in the next 3 years. I will explode...

Almost moving time!

This blog is really in bad shape. :) I haven't really had much to blog about in Minnesota and now our time here is coming to a close. We sold our house in 7 days. Yippee! Not sure how it happened but it did. We then went and purchased a home in Crystal Lake, IL. We have had about 3 wks in between purchase and closing. Yikes. It is one way to break yourself out of moving denial. Here is a pic of the new house. Chris will be doing lots of mowing. Ha! I promised the kids a big playset in the backyard. Movers come next week. I will try to capture some pics of the move and the progress on the house. Lots of painting in our future!

Long lost blog

I have been out of touch lately. The kids and school have taken over my life. :)

Just had to write about something because I am not ready to announce it to the world yet (ie Facebook). Luckily, this blog isn't followed by too many people. :)

We are moving again. Chicago here we come. Sort of excited. Sort of overwhelmed. A little sad...
